The New Tiguan

Kuwait, 19 September 2011 – The highly celebrated Volkswagen Tiguan SUV has received a makeover, transforming the model to encapsulate new innovative features that enhance its status at the top of its class. The new Tiguan sports top equipment lines that delivers superior dynamic performance and more stylistic precision.

The new Tiguan is the only SUV in its class that is available in three different lines: "Sport & Style", "Trend & Fun", and "Track & Style"; a model designed specifically for off-road activities.

In Germany, its average market share in the compact SUV segment was about 21 percent in 2010, while it was 12 percent across Europe. We are looking to continue this success with the new look Tiguan and further advanced technologies in the Middle East."

A car suitable for both families and individuals in the Middle East, the new Tiguan enjoys a large boot space that can be adjusted from 470 litres to 1,510 litres. It also comes equipped with a number of innovative on-board systems like the DCC adaptive chassis control, Dynamic Light Assist, Fatigue Detection, Park Assist, Park Pilot with visual display, Rear Assist and XDS electronic differential lock. Inside the car is fitted with the RCD 210, RCD 310, RCD 510 Radio-CD or RNS 510 Radio-navigation system. Other peripherals include a MEDIA-IN port for USB or iPod, AUX-IN port, Dynaudio sound system (300 Watt).

"Safety is a major concern on the roads of the Middle East. In addition to the new cosmetics, the new Tiguan sports a number of safety features that ensure your safety on the road," added Butros.

The Tiguan contains a number of innovative systems that deliver a brilliant, comfortable and safe driving experience, including the revolutionary Fatigue Detection systems. Research showed that 25% of all motorway accidents can be attributed to tiredness, so Fatigue Detection detects waning driver concentration and warns them with an acoustic signal and visual messages recommending that drivers take a break from driving and rest. Failing to do so will cause the alarm to recur every 15 minutes.

Another new innovation is Lane Assist which autonomously and gently counter steers the car as soon as it becomes apparent that it might leave the lane unintentionally. About 14% of all accidents with personal injury are caused by leaving the driving lane, so this system has been designed to minimize that risk.

Mr. Abdullah Ali – General Manager Volkswagen at Behbehani Motors Company commented:” After the great success that the 1st generation Tiguan achieved in Kuwait we are un-veiling today the 2nd generation facelift Tiguan with its modified front grill, head & tail lights and enhanced off road capabilities. Tiguan was also the first SUV in the world to adapt the park assist function which allows the vehicle to parallelpark by itself. Mr. Ali also declared that an increase of 40% in sales of the new Tiguan is expected and highlighted that VW is considered the biggest automotive company in Europe with its head office being in Germany.

The new Tiguan comes with the second generation of Park Assist, which now supports assisted perpendicular parking – i.e. at right angles to the driving lane. The system is activated at speeds up to 40 km/h by pressing a button on the centre console. The driver indicates the side of the carriageway for parking by activating the indicator for that side. Park Assist utilises its 12 ultrasonic sensors to detect a sufficiently large parking space, and then assisted parking can begin: the driver engages reverse gear and only needs to accelerate and brake.

In addition to the new technological features the Tiguan boasts, the exterior now offers a distinctive and timeless styling that is both visually stunning and appealing. Volkswagen has further developed the lines of the Tiguan – in particular, the front and rear sections were redesigned to reflect Volkswagen’s new "design DNA". The new styling of the front end differentiates the two body versions more than before. Yet, both Tiguan versions have adopted the Volkswagen “design DNA” that is marked by a dominance of clear horizontal lines. The grille is upgraded with two double chrome louvers and the distinctive optional bi-xenon headlights with masked main beam give the car a very sharp look. At the rear, all Tiguan versions have an angle of departure of 25 degrees, which may be reduced by vehicle payload. The side profile offers a clear and powerful design that incorporates solid yet modestly trimmed wheel housings, a window line that rises towards the rear, distinctive door and wing surfaces, and the unmistakable C-pillars. A range of new alloy wheels visually distinguishes the Tiguan from the previous model.

With its standard 6-speed automatic gearbox and front MacPherson strut type suspension, the new Tiguan offers a dynamic and sporty performance fit for both urban driving and off-roading. This car reflects the high standards and quality that Volkswagen is known for, and we are excited to offer it to our customers in the Middle East.
